BURDETT ROAD boasts a rating of 111 on the level and he made a successful return to hurdles when landing the Greatwood in November. Far from disgraced in behind the mighty Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day, he doesn't face anything of a similar ilk today and looks to hold excellent credentials now eased in class. Golden Ace has yet to scale the heights she did last season but a drop in trip could spark a revival. Brentford Hope was perhaps flattered to finish three lengths behind Constitution Hill at Cheltenham three weeks ago, but he would not be far away with a similar level of performance.

THUNDER N LIGHTNIN has shown promise over hurdles, but chasing ought to be more his game and Harry Derham's gelding receives a tentative vote in what looks a moderate contest. Good Friday Fairy didn't see out an extended 2m7f at Lingfield last time but, with cheekpieces applied for the first time and dropped in trip, it would come as no surprise to see an improved performance. Bertie Wooster is another to consider.

Pure Carbon would take some stopping if reproducing the form of his Warwick second in October, but his subsequent defeats at Newbury and Huntingdon leave him with something to prove. With that in mind, it could be worth taking a chance on hurdles debutant STAR ARTIST. Hughie Morrison's charge finished a respectable third on his seasonal bow in a bumper at Southwell in December and, if taking to this discipline, a breakthrough victory may beckon. The Sainted Canary completes the shortlist.

Having been sandwiched between two subsequent winners when second at Exeter on New Year's Day, compensation could be on the cards for RISK DE PLUIE. A 2lb nudge up in the ratings looks on the lenient side for Ben Clarke's gelding and he appears ready to open his account over fences. Quick Sharpener returned to form with a solid second at Newcastle last month and the eight-year-old may give most resistance to the selection, ahead of Famoso.

A lengthy absence was no barrier to DE TELLERS FORTUNE making a winning handicap/chase debut when he gained a hard-fought success under James Bowen at Taunton in December. With the same jockey retained and the likelihood of improvement now he has some experience in this discipline, a 6lb higher rating might not be enough to prevent the lightly-raced six-year-old from following up over this longer trip. Course hat-trick seeker Pedley Wood is the most obvious danger, although the first-time visor could initiate a revival from The Wrekin.

BADBURY RINGS showed marked improvement when stepped up to 3m on his last two starts and could be tough to overhaul if he continues to flourish in the same manner. His second-placed finish at Taunton most recently reads well and there should be more to come on just his third start in a handicap. Point-to-pointer winner Western Harmony is feared most, with this longer distance likely to be beneficial on his handicap debut. Copshill Lad is a notable alternative with last month's return under his belt.
