UK Horse Racing Tips: Fairyhouse

DE TEMPS EN TEMPS really found his stride in the latter stages of a bumper at this racetrack and actually won going away. This is his second run over hurdles and there should be plenty of improvement to come from him. He holds an entry in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Ufouria is one to note on hurdling debut after a six-length victory in a mares' bumper at Cork last month. She receives plenty of weight from her main rivals. Gordon Elliott's Kish Bank gave best in second on the run-in at Gowran Park and that was a solid effort. Elliott's supposed second-string Quality Control and Watchful Protector, who was third in a Limerick bumper, look best of the rest.

KAPTAIN BAY has had four spins over hurdles which have yielded two placed finishes at Ballinrobe. He was last seen coming home fifth in a big field at Punchestown and that form is working out well. Janes Harbour returns to action after finishing third at Cork in October and at Down Royal in November. She doesn't look badly weighted, however, slower ground is an unknown for her. Chortal looks the pick of Gordon Elliott's pair based on jockey bookings, while Maxios Prime was running a vastly-improved race when departing at the final flight at Down Royal. Butter Fingers isn't out of it, but his best form is on better ground.

DANCING JEREMY reappeared off a three-month break to win a valuable handicap chase at Limerick over Christmas. The assessor gave him a hike for that, but he bids to exploit his lower hurdle mark. Glen Kiln ran well for a long way before finishing unplaced in a higher grade over further at the Dublin Racing Festival. On his penultimate start, he was an easy winner over this trip in Navan. Beckett Rock is a lightly-raced sort who has already clocked up two victories. He could bounce back from a below par run at Leopardstown. Slane Hill has ability but prefers better ground, while Thornleigh Frank ran up a hat-trick in the summer of 2023 but hasn't been seen since then.

LEAH'S CONTESSA was good enough to land a maiden hurdle at this track without fully settling. A first-time hood is tried and she is on a mark she ought to be competitive off on handicap debut. One And Only had a productive December at Cork with a victory and a runner-up berth posted, so he can get into contention. Kingkong Ciergues left previous efforts well behind when just pipped by a head at this track, which makes him dangerous. There was promise in Glenetty's third place on handicap debut at Punchestown, while Wardens Whisper made all over a shorter trip at Cork and wasn't winning out of turn. Elusive Guy is another to consider in a competitive race.

I AM MAXIMUS is targeting a repeat Grand National success but might still concede 12lb to 161-rated Thyestes winner Nick Rockett and follow up last year's success in this race. The selection was recently handed top weight for April's showpiece and it is notable Paul Townend has chosen to ride him. Nick Rockett has strong claims on ratings and is suited by race conditions but lacks the selection's best high-class ability. Affordale Fury, who needs to complete the course to qualify for Cheltenham handicaps, was an unlucky loser recently and can get involved. Intense Raffles reverts to fences and is another en route to Aintree.

NEY was a mini-revelation when he went up in distance to score on chase debut last month, and might continue to progress. He benefitted hugely from running over staying Flat distances last year, winning three times in Britain, and while he faces a tougher task than when scoring at Punchestown recently, should appreciate today's even longer distance. Buachaillbocht has a favourable chase rating and while he should be well suited to stepping up to this distance being a laid-back individual, has poor recent form. Jasmin De Cotte made mistakes when running well at Leopardstown during Christmas and stays well.

BIOLUMINESCENCE has a tough task to concede 10lb to Spindleberry but is suited by this distance and testing ground. Despite pulling up in a Grade 1 race last March, the selection is thoroughly dependable and ran very well when failing to concede 1lb to high-class stayer Dancing City at Naas last month. A reproduction of that run would give her every chance. Spindleberry finished second in the aforementioned top-level Fairyhouse race last March and is herself very able. She looks sure to benefit from her debut fences win at Cork in December and returns from a break, so should give the selection a real race. Judicieuse Allen might edge A Penny A Hundred for third.

A chance is taken with KAISER BALL, who is owner-ridden on debut for Willie Mullins. The selection debuts at a notable time of year and all three of his older siblings were smart bumper performers. One of those was Grade 1-placed in this sphere while the other pair landed three bumpers between them. Stablemate Arslan was purchased for 180,000 euros following his May debut points run and while the fourth-placed horse at Tralee subsequently won a bumper, that overall form isn't exciting. Eachtotheirown showed plenty of ability when heavily supported on debut. That Naas form looks strong as the winner, third and fourth had all previously won point-to-points.
