Steve Ryder runs through the key races on 27th February and names his best bets for the day.

There is jumps racing at Taunton, Ludlow and Clonmel on Thursday 27th February while Newcastle and Chelmsford stage an all-weather meetings.

Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder

This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but I am willing to take a chance on LEODIS DREAM (best priced at 14/1) who has been running consistently well off this mark over this course and distance. The Paul Midgley trained nine-year-old won over this course and distance in October off a mark of 64 before finishing 3rd beaten less than a length off a mark of 70 later that month.

Leodis Dream returned from a 99 day break to finish a ¾ length 3rd over this course and distance last time off this mark of 70 and he gets to run here off the same mark. He looks to sure to be involved in the finish once again with up to four places available.

3:20 Newcastle- Leodis Dream 14/1 (0.5pt ew

15:35 Taunton

The Neil Mulholland trained BADBURY RINGS (best priced at 10/11) looks a progressive six-year-old and he can defy a 9lb rise in the weights. Well beaten on his three qualifying runs over 2 miles, he has run much better since over 3 miles in handicaps. He finished 3rd here on his handicap debut before finishing 2nd at the same track off a mark of 96 on his penultimate start.

Badbury Rings justified favouritism last time at Wincanton winning by ½ length off a mark of 101 but he was value for a lot more than the winning margin suggested and the pair pulled 12 lengths clear of the third. He is clearly progressing well and can defy a hike in the weights.

20:00 Chelmsford

Despite a poor draw in Stall 10, ELTERWATER (best priced at 6/5) is expected to follow up his recent course and distance success. The Daniel & Claire Kubler trained five-year-old has a good record at Chelmsford with form figures of 121 and was an impressive 3 ¼ length winner on Saturday when ridden by Billy Loughnane for the first time.

The handicapper has raised Elterwater 7lbs for that victory but he runs here instead under a 5lb penalty meaning that he is 2lbs “well in” at the weights. If Billy Loughnane can once again get him in a prominent position then he should prove hard to beat.
