Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder
Last time out winner Nollyador is respected with Harry Cobden taking over on board but THE BLUEBERRY ONE (best priced at 9/4) could still prove well handicapped with his stable back in form. The Harry Derham yard are operating at a 31% strike rate in the past fortnight and the selection ran in January at a time when the stable were still suffering the effects of a flood in December.
The Blueberry One finished 2nd beaten only two lengths off a mark of 101 that day and is deserving of a 4lb rise from the handicapper. He is lightly raced and looks the one to beat with his stable back amongst the winners.
16:22 Newcastle
This looks a competitive 0-75 handicap but preference goes to BLACKJACK (best priced at 11/2) whose seven career victories have all come over this trip of 6f. The latest of those came at this track a fortnight ago when beating the reopposing Roaring Ralph by a head in a first-time visor.
Connections of Blackjack have booked Billy Loughnane for the ride which is a positive and he is drawn closest to the stand-side rail from Stall 7. Off only a 3lb higher mark, he should prove hard to beat.
16:40 Market Rasen
ALTO ALTO (best priced at 13/2) repeated his victory at Plumpton last time when fitted with a first-time visor and he can follow up off a 4lb higher mark. Last season he won in first-time cheekpieces and then followed up off 5lb higher mark and hopefully the visor will have the same effect for a second time.
Alto Alto won in Plumpton off a mark of 114 last season so this mark of 115 shouldn’t prove beyond him and he looks overpriced in this small field.
