With that in mind, recent C&D runner-up STAR LEGEND, who races off an unchanged mark, looks the most solid proposition. Swinging London is worth a second look too.

With three triumphs in his last four outings, BEARAWAY hasn't looked back since joining Simon Pearce's yard. The combination of a return to 1m3f and a 3lb nudge up in the ratings should pose little issue for the son of Kodiac and further glory may be on the cards. The biggest threat might emerge from Gozo, who has filled the runner-up spot on his last two appearances. Tortured Soul is unlikely to be far away either.

SOVEREIGN SEA was an impressive winner on his belated racecourse debut at Newcastle in November and steps into handicap company after two promising runner-up efforts in novice company. An opening rating of 85 isn't too restrictive for the son of Ten Sovereigns and this could be a stepping stone to bigger prizes. Cracking Gold is notable after having a wind issue addressed, while the in-form Barnaby is worth a try over this longer trip.

North Star showed the benefit of her debut run when she comfortably justified favouritism at Newcastle in November and she is open to further progression as a three-year-old. However, a 7lb penalty could be her undoing here and preference is for the well-bred PELEAN, who debuts for powerful connections at a very realistic level. Bijoux is another attractive option on paper and also warrants a betting check. Arkinthestars appeals most from the rest with experience.

Last seen when tried in the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud, SPIRIT OF SUMMER is the obvious starting point as he drops back into a maiden. The son of Mohaather has shown enough ability to suggest he should be tough to deal with if running anywhere near his official rating of 90, assuming he handles the surface on his all-weather debut. Several of the newcomers appeal on paper, with Gloriously Sassy, Festive Time and Nutmeg all suggested as ones to monitor closely in the betting.

RESCUE MISSION has shown ability on both of her starts so far, finishing second and fourth respectively, and she could have more to offer. The daughter of Kodiac has Oisin Murphy booked and she might put her experience to good use. Hush Puppy took a step forward from his debut fifth to make the frame at Newcastle in December and it would be no surprise to see him have a say. Any market confidence behind newcomer Al Arbeed would be interesting too.

Chief Mankato completes the shortlist.
