However, that was only his third victory from 35 starts and a safer option may be MAMDOH, who won twice over this C&D last month and was only denied by half a length when runner-up off 1lb lower 10 days ago. Upped in distance for his handicap debut, an improved effort from Courageous Gold would come as no surprise.

THE DEFIANT touched off Wedgewood by the narrowest of margins when scoring over this C&D earlier in the month and they could fight it out again here. The former has subsequently finished a well-held third in a higher grade and, only 1lb worse off with the latter now dropped back in class, Luke Dace's gelding is fancied to edge out his reopposing rival again. Phoenix Beach is only 2lb higher than his track-and-trip victory two starts ago and he could mount another bold bid, while Level Up is slipping back to a fair mark.

Aiming High was only held by half a length when third off this mark over 1m3f at Southwell last time and should go well again, but preference is for the unexposed BAJAN BLUE. Winner of a maiden over the extended 1m1f here on debut, Roger Varian's filly made the frame in a 1m3f novice stakes at Southwell earlier in the month and, with the promise of more to come, a mark of 68 certainly looks workable on her handicap bow. C&D winner Kinetic is now only 1lb above her last winning mark and she is worth a second look.

Having overcome his inexperience to make a winning debut at Southwell in November, there is likely more to come from SUPREME SOVEREIGN. Charlie Hills' gelding displayed a willing attitude on his introduction and can defy a penalty. San Juanito arrives on the back of a solid third on his handicap bow and the son of Lope De Vega is feared most, although market support for Grizzieblanca on her debut would be interesting.

HAVANA JOY built on her opening third at Kempton when filling the runner-up berth over 6f here 25 days ago. The daughter of Havana Grey is just the sort to relish the extra furlong and a breakthrough victory may beckon. Newcomer Niyla Breeze, a half-sister to useful French 1m2f winner Caligine, shouldn't be found lacking for stamina and market support would be interesting. Wise Stars also warrants close inspection.

BETA READER came from out of the clouds to get up by a head over C&D earlier in the month and a 2lb rise for that success may underestimate him. Charlie Johnston's three-year-old makes only his second start in handicap company and could take another step forward. Party Bear showed more when hitting the woodwork over 6f at this venue in January and she might improve for this step up in distance. Maids Head is next best.

Sceptic made his second start for the Ian Williams yard a successful one over track and trip last time and he holds an obvious chance off a 2lb higher mark. However, it may pay to side with PRINCE ALI, who accounted for Golspie over C&D recently and is well drawn in stall two. The seven-year-old might only need to reproduce that level of form in order to strike again. Last-time-out Newcastle scorer It's A Love Thing is another to note.
