Steve Ryder runs through the key races on 24th March and names his best bets for the day.

There is jumps racing at Wincanton on Monday 24th March while Lingfield and Wolverhampton stage all-weather meetings.

Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder

This looks a competitive 0-55 handicap but preference goes to the consistent NEPTUNE LEGEND (best priced at 5/2). The Tony Carroll trained six-year-old has form figures of 221323 this year since the reapplication of headgear. He wore blinkers on his first four starts of the year which has been replaced by a visor on his previous two starts.

Connections of Neptune Legend now switch his headgear back to blinkers which is a positive and he should once again be involved in the finish at this course.

19:00 Wolverhampton

Ash Wednesday has won his previous four starts over this trip of 7f but he now goes back up in grade and looks vulnerable under a 5lb penalty. A chance is taken on STRAIGHT A (best priced at 9/2) who has a good record at Wolverhampton in his career with form figures of 51513. He won here in January off a mark of 68 before finishing 3rd behind the in-form Paradoxical here in February. That rival has since won his next two starts and will be rated over 10lbs higher so Straight A looks well handicapped off the same mark.

Straight A was only beaten ½ length at Southwell over this trip last time off this mark and he looks sure to run well with up to four places available.

7:00 Wolverhampton- Straight A 9/2 (0.5pt ew)

20:30 Wolverhampton

The Jennie Candlish trained PARADOXICAL (best priced at 9/4) has proved a revelation since the application of cheekpieces and he is expected to complete a fifth victory in a row. The four-year-old has won all four of those starts at this track and has progressed from a mark of 66 up to 75 which he won off last time.

Paradoxical runs here under a 5lb penalty which will make things more difficult given his winning margin of a head last time but he looks progressive and can complete a five-timer under Warren Fentiman.
