Ghost Hunter has been well backed overnight on his first start for Jamie Snowden but he will need to prove well handicapped to beat ULTRA BEAT (best priced at 10/3) granted a clear round. The Henry Daly trained seven-year-old was extremely well backed to win in a first-time visor here last time when he unseated Stan Sheppard at the fifth last when looking the most likely winner (was odds on in running).
Because his unseat was at the fifth last fence, Ultra Beat gets to run here off the same mark of 109 and he should prove hard to beat if he can escape any jumping mistakes.
15:05 Southwell
This looks a competitive 0-115 handicap chase but preference goes to the Olly Murphy trained SALLEY GARDENS (best priced at 15/8) who won over this course and distance in June. The nine-year-old won off a mark of 112 that day on good ground by 5 ½ lengths and has now dropped down to a mark of 110 having run below form on heavy ground last time at Taunton.
With Sean Bowen back on board as well as this return to Southwell on better ground, Salley Gardens looks the one to beat in this race.
17:40 Southwell
The Olly Murphy trained TRAMUNTANA (best priced at 6/4) won on his handicap debut and he should be suited by this further step up in trip. The six-year-old had previously finished well beaten in his three qualifying runs over 2 miles before justifying favouritism last time at Huntingdon over 2m3½f. He won by 1 ¼ lengths that day under Lewis Saunders off a mark of 94 and is worthy of his 5lb rise from the handicapper.
This further step up in trip by a furlong will suit Tramuntana well and with Sean Bowen back on board he should prove hard to beat.
