Steve Ryder runs through the key races on 30th March and names his best bets for the day.

There is flat turf racing at the Doncaster and Leopardstown as well as jumps racing at Downpatrick and Ascot on Sunday 30th March.

Today’s Best Bets from Steve Ryder

Both Henri Matisse and Arizona Blaze boast a higher level of form but HAZDANN (best priced at 4/1) can surpass both them this season. The Dermot Weld trained colt was unlucky when only 9th on his debut but stepped forward from that when getting off the mark on his second start at the Curragh in June. The son of Night Of Thunder beat Green Impact by a neck that day with a further 2 ¼ lengths back to the third.
Green Impact has boosted that form with two victories over Delacroix including in the Group 2 Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown in September last season. That rival is a short priced favourite for the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes later on the card so the form of that maiden victory is working out well. Hazdann looks to have huge potential and he can upset his more experienced rivals in this race.

It is a shame that Fairy Godmother has been retired following a setback but that makes the filly who beat her on her debut SPARKLING SEA (best priced at 6/1) fascinating in this race. The Ger Lyons trained three-year-old beat Fairy Godmother by 2 ½ lengths at Naas on her debut before that rival reversing that form in a Group 3 on their next start by a neck.

Fairy Godmother then went on to justify favouritism in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot giving a boost to that form so it is interesting to see how Sparkling Sea fares this season. Ger Lyons and Colin Keane have started this season in good form and she looks sure to be involved in the finish.

15:40 Doncaster

Although the ground is good today rather than soft like it was last year, KNEBWORTH (best priced at 8/1) still looks to hold strong claims. The Richard Hughes trained five-year-old won this race under Ethan Jones last season off a mark of 85 having ran at Wolverhampton on his reappearance and connections have given him the exact same prep this season.

Knebworth runs here off only a 4lb higher mark but he showed last season with a 2nd placed finish on good ground at Haydock off a mark of 87, that he is versatile ground wise and is still competitively handicapped off this mark. With bookmakers offering up to six places, he should be involved in the finish.
