Royal Ascot winner CRIMSON ADVOCATE (best price 7/2) looked desperately unlucky not to make a winning return at this level at Kempton last time out when appreciating the step up to a mile and is strongly fancied to make amends.
She travelled beautifully into this race and was just unfortunate to get her head down at the wrong time when Soprano landed the spoils having come with a strong challenge, where she was given a little too much to do.
Nevertheless, she looked more comfortable back down in grade and she will love the fast ground here. She has plenty more to come and this Group 2 winner has every chance of going one better with bigger targets to come.
14:35 Thirsk
FLIGHT PLAN (best price 12/1) is a Group 2 winner, and although he wasn’t at his best in his four-year-old season, there was encouragement to take from his C&D seasonal reappearance three weeks ago when fourth.
That should have blown away the cobwebs, and if you look at his previous form, all of his efforts were in pattern-events, so he’s definitely well treated on these if he can build on his latest return..
It was around this time last year he was competing in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes when rated 113, so he’s extremely well handicapped off 102 and having course form is a major bonus around this venue.
Luckily I tipped last year’s winner Titan Rock at 20/1 and I’m hopeful Karl Burke’s classy contender will run a big race.
