Military Code made a triumphant start at Newmarket and bids to maintain Charlie Appleby's strong record in this event by giving him a fourth success since 2017. That said, the son of Wootton Bassett will need to be smart to follow up under a 6lb penalty and the vote goes to CELESTIAL KING, who became the most expensive purchase at the Craven Breeze-Up sale last month when fetching an eye-watering 1.75m guineas. Others to consider are Old Is Gold and Bassenthwaite.
Prediction : 1st Celestial King 2nd Military Code 3rd Old Is Gold

RAINBOWS EDGE lost little other than her unbeaten record when runner-up in a Listed contest at Salisbury last summer. The fact she was given an entry for the Middleton at York suggests the regard connections hold her in and the drop from 1m2f on her handicap debut represents a excellent opportunity for the royal filly to bounce back. Arisaig has been competitive in both starts this campaign and enters calculations. Zapphire appears best of the remainder.
Prediction : 1st Rainbows Edge 2nd Arisaig 3rd Zapphire

Qirat was progressive throughout last season, with a couple of victories in valuable handicaps at Goodwood, and remains capable of further improvement. The only concern would be faster ground, and ROI DE FRANCE has a slightly more interesting profile for a race of this nature. Fancied for the Cambridgeshire when disappointing on soft ground, his all-weather form since has been particularly strong and conditions appear to be in his favour. Myal arrives having won five of his last six starts and is considered along with Ten Pounds.
Prediction : 1st Roi De France 2nd Qirat 3rd Myal

TURQUINO has a striking pedigree and debuts in a handicap with an unblemished record after a brace of relatively cosy wins on the all-weather in March. An opening mark of 86 isn't overly harsh and the son of Teofilo is selected based on his obvious potential. Fireblade's winning debut for Dylan Cunha at Leicester reads well and he is another key player, given his scope to deal with a 5lb higher rating. The recently-gelded My Dream World and Ocean Of Dreams are others to consider.
Prediction : 1st Turquino 2nd Fireblade 3rd My Dream World

Cape Breton, who cost 450,000gns as a yearling, progressed nicely in three starts last year, culminating in a hard-fought success over a mile on the Polytrack at Lingfield. Bred to stay at least this far, the now-gelded son of Frankel debuts in a handicap from a competitive mark. However, the equally progressive CHARTWELL JOCK wasn't beaten far when second over this trip at Doncaster and can go one better now he is proven on turf and with Oisin Murphy retaining the ride. Beverley winner Kokanee and Brindavan complete the shortlist.
Prediction : 1st Chartwell Jock 2nd Cape Breton 3rd Kokanee

A novice winner last term, MORROPHORE finished a promising third over a mile at Southwell on her handicap debut. She looks on a workable mark on that evidence and this extra test of stamina will suit the daughter of Kingman. Rock Camelot is also unexposed and is likely to improve after finding one too good at Wetherby on her handicap bow. Aiming High has been in fine form on the all-weather and drops down in trip with a shout off her current mark.
Prediction : 1st Morrophore 2nd Rock Camelot 3rd Aiming High

DREAM OF MISCHIEF was narrowly denied when coming out second best in a fight to the line at Kempton. A winner over 7f and a mile, he will appreciate the stiff 6f at this track and Jack Dace's 7lb allowance further helps his cause. Arnaz enters calculations after going close at Haydock on his reappearance, while Doncaster third Smart Vision could also land a blow. Last year's winner Northcliff arrives in fine form, although he is 10lb higher on this occasion.
Prediction : 1st Dream Of Mischief 2nd Arnaz 3rd Smart Vision

SONDAD looks primed to run a big race on the back of finishing runner-up at Leicester. He remains open to further improvement with a visor applied for the first time and a bold bid is anticipated. Invincible Speed has a bit to find with the selection, having finished third at Leicester, but could still feature in his current mood. Counsel landed a double over the minimum trip on the all-weather back in February and might be on the premises too.
Prediction : 1st Sondad 2nd Invincible Speed 3rd Counsel
