Zain Nights won this race last season and may go well again, though he is 7lb higher this year.

Trainer Evan Williams has won three of the last 10 runnings of this race, suggesting Dr T J Eckleburg has a chance as he returns to hurdles for the first time since 2023. He can go well, but GOBLET OF FIRE could have the edge for Nicky Henderson. Only a five-year-old, and a three-time winner including last time out at Hereford, he might have more to offer as he gains experience. Hat-trick seeking Givemefive, a course and distance winner as recently as April, looks the biggest danger.

Don Cantillon has a 22 per cent strike-rate with his bumper horses over the last five seasons and it will be interesting to see where newcomer SO PROUD sits in the betting market, with Sean Bowen an eye-catching jockey booking. The fact that Tony Martin sends Ballinrobe winner Jules Winfield over from Ireland speaks volumes, and he shouldn't be far away at the finish, while the connections of both Newcastle winner Freddie Steady Go and Market Rasen victor On To The Rouge will be equally hopeful.

NEVER LET GO filled third place on her seasonal/handicap debut over 7f at Wetherby last month and the step up in trip could help her to resume winning ways off the same mark here. That said, Boston Run hit the crossbar over C&D a couple of weeks ago and may give the selection plenty to think about, while Magellan Cloud is another who arrives with solid form claims.

CALLIANASSA appeared to have a bit in hand when scoring over 7f at Southwell recently and Brian Ellison's filly could be hard to stop if transferring that form to turf, despite a 3lb rise. Ziggy's Condor was not disgraced when fourth over 6f at Leicester last time and he could go well back up in trip. Others to note are Brazilian Rose, Follow Your Heart and Oriental Prince.

Tiber Flow was well beaten in the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp when last seen but is possibly better judged on his victory in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury prior (Kikkuli fourth). Even so, ARRAY looks the more appealing option after finishing third on his return at Thirsk last month. Andrew Balding's four-year-old took the Mill Reef last year and could take a step forward from his comeback to score here. Alyanaabi also warrants respect.

LEVER UP showed more when finishing fourth on his handicap debut at Nottingham last month and was kindly dropped 1lb for that effort. The son of Ulysses takes a sizeable step up in trip and, with Paul Mulrennan back on board, he could be the one to beat. Is I Right outran his odds to finish fourth at Chelmsford on his latest outing and could get closer here, while Rosso Levanto makes her first start in a handicap and warrants a market check.
