He was beaten a fair way, but the winner has since gone on to be successful in a Listed novices' hurdle at Perth so the form has depth. Couldntmakeitup stayed on well for a close third at Naas in December, which was a big step forward. He has earned a mark of 105 and is a big player. Kasanova's Dream kept on for third in Tramore so this extra distance could suit him well. Philip Rothwell runs three horses and his newcomer Damoso is worth a market check with Tiernan Power Roche up.

His close second in the Ulster National at Downpatrick was endorsed when the winner finished fourth in the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse. GENERAL CLERMONT wouldn't be winning out of turn having finished runner-up at Limerick and Tramore on his last two starts. His last victory in this discipline came over a similar trip at Wexford.
