Architect Tips gives his three best bets from Saturday's ITV races at Royal Ascot.
14:30 Royal Ascot
Charlie Appleby will be desperate to get a winner on the board at the Royal meeting, so although his week hasn’t gone to plan, TREANMOR (best price 13/8) has excellent claims in the opener based on the way he got the job done last time out.
He was far more impressive than the other debutant winners in the line-up when going through the gears to score by an easy four lengths and this step up in trip should see him in an even better light. This expensive son of Frankel can remain unbeaten under William Buick.
15:05 Royal Ascot
REBEL’S ROMANCE (best price 5/2) is absolutely lethal over this distance and did very well take the Yorkshire Cup last month. He put up a bold showing in defeat when third in last year’s King George behind Goliath and this race looks to have been the plan.
This is his trip and conditions and he has no penalty to carry for that latest success, so this top-class Group 1 winning seven-year-old has a great chance of adding to his excellent CV.
I will play a cover bet on AL RIFFA (best price 9/2) though, who bolted up in a Group 1 in Germany on his only previous start over this distance and has warmed up for this with two good efforts in defeat this year.
His second to City Of Troy in last year’s Coral-Eclipse reads well, so if for some reason the Godolphin runner underperforms, I’m confident he will be the one to take advantage for the Joseph O’Brien and Declan McMonagle team.
