Architect has two best bets for Friday's racing at the Northumberland Plate Festival.
19:35 Newcastle
JAKAJARO (best price 13/2) wasn’t able to sustain his position when weakening late on at Windsor last time out, but he might have needed the run after three months off prior, and the way he moved through the race suggested he is due a win.
He is very well handicapped on the pick of last year’s form when trained in Ireland (placed in some good-quality Listed races) and won his only previous start on the all-weather (polytrack). If he has taken a step forward from his latest showing, then he could go very well.
VINTAGE CLARETS (best price 7/2) has looked as though he’s returning to form of late and was last seen running well to finish fifth of 19 in the Dash at Epsom.
The handicapper has dropped his mark a couple of pounds, meaning he is only 3lb higher than when he bolted up in this race two years ago.
That was his only previous start at this venue and he seemed to love it, particularly with the way he moved through the race and quickened up inside the final furlong.
He defied a 1lb higher figure at Catterick back in October and Warren Fentiman can take off an additional 5lbs. His trainer is in good form and he is well treated at present, so there’s optimism to think he will run a big race.
