UK Horse Racing Tips: Leopardstown

Aidan O'Brien's AMELIA EARHART is bred to appreciate further being by Camelot out of a mare who won at Group 3 level over 1m4f, but could be good enough to take this on debut. She holds an entry in the Group 1 Moyglare Stakes at the Curragh. There are another couple of Moyglare entrants in newcomers Thenandnow and Tahcawin, who add plenty of spice to the mix. Phenomenal Filly was easy to back on her first start at the Curragh, but kept on in fifth and is noted.

BONUS TIME makes her first start for Paddy Twomey and brings strong form to the contest. Gavin Cromwell trained her to a runner-up berth on debut at Cork behind a horse who was subsequently fifth in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She then progressed to comfortably land a maiden at the Curragh. This step up in trip shouldn't inconvenience her. Andy Oliver's Sounds Like A Plan tries a new trip and is respected. Shelbiana dips her toes into handicap company for the first time and the form of her close second at Dundalk last October has been boosted.

VERA'S SECRET is two from two at Leopardstown and sets the standard with a rating of 105. She has been freshened up since finishing fourth in a Group 2 at the Curragh in May. On her penultimate start, she sailed in by four lengths in a Group 3. Duckadilly is markedly up in class, but is going the right way after winning her first two races. Bellaphina travelled well on her way to victory in a valuable handicap at the Curragh last month, while Chantez is another to consider.

PIER PRESSURE is one of three Ger Lyons representatives and has struck up a decent association with Nicola Burns. The pair were a never-nearer sixth on their last visit here and then kept on well for second at Down Royal which indicated that another win may not be far away. Tachos ran on to win over 1m1f here on her penultimate start and it may be best to put a line through her latest effort on soft ground. Finsceal Annie is in great form and also makes the shortlist.

Unlucky in running when second at the Curragh on Derby weekend, LOVE BILLY BOY can gain compensation. Stepping up to a mile for only the second time in his career, the Gerard O'Leary-trained gelding finished strongly having been denied a clear run. Although now racing over an additional furlong, the four-year-old gives the impression that he should be capable of staying the trip, especially on a turning track such as this. State Actor, who finished a place behind the selection in that aforementioned race, also has leading claims. Another who suffered an interrupted passage, the five-year-old is back on a competitive mark. Slieve Binnian, winner of that Curragh race, should again hold every chance.

Recent Tipperary runner-up THEGOOSEISCOOKED can go one place better. While she has flattered to deceive on more than one occasion, the Ger Keane-trained mare has returned in fine form this season. Prior to her latest narrow defeat, the eight-year-old finished a close third over C&D. In an ordinary contest that shouldn't take much winning, it will be disappointing for connections if she doesn't finally get her head in front. Flier, another who ran very well on her most recent visit to this track, should again be competitive. Just touched off by a well-handicapped rival, the Denise Foster-trained mare will find this easier. Carvalhal and Cleopatra's Needle are others with chances.

This looks a good opportunity for A PIECE OF HEAVEN to gain a first win since joining Joseph O'Brien. Successful on three occasions for previous connections, the gelding was subsequently sold to race at Royal Ascot last year. Having finished mid-division as favourite in the Copper Horse Handicap, he later proved somewhat disappointing in a Curragh Group 3 before returning to that venue to finish runner-up in the Irish Cesarewitch on his final start. With a rating of 106, he sets a clear standard in this company. Listowel winner Gentleman Joe rates the main danger if able to reproduce that run. The veteran Shanroe isn't one to totally discount, despite his modest recent form.
