GALASHIELS (best price 20/1) registered a couple of Listed wins in France, including a defeat of Group 1 winner Goliath and that reads strong form in the context of this event.
While he failed to beat a rival here on stable debut back in June in a Listed race, that run would have been needed and the switch to handicap company with they run under his belt could see him involved.
A mark of 105 is no easy feat to defy, but he brings a touch of quality into this contest and I can see him running very well with Jamie Spencer booked to ride.
HALLELUJAH U, at the opposite end of the handicap, is another I want on side. His weight-for-age allowance is a huge advantage and there’s no better treated horse than him on these terms.
He stayed on strongly to finish sixth in the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot when practically upsides Scandinavia at the finish and we know what that horse has done since. His latest third in a Group 3 event behind that same rival at Newmarket was another fine effort in defeat.
So being eased in grade, with more to come over a staying distance, redemption could be on the cards for jockey and trainer who were unfortunate with Wimbledon Hawkeye earlier this week.

The Owen Burrows-trained WAARDAH (best price 13/2) has made a good start to her career, winning two of her four starts and was really impressive when winning a Listed race here in June by over two lengths last time out.
The way she powered through the line, putting distance between herself and the runner-up, suggests this step up in trip should see her in an even better light. I think she represents very reasonable each-way value.

In the Stewards’ Cup, I’ll take a chance on KORKER (best price 25/1), who is surely going to pop up in a big handicap before too long.
It’s been 17 runs since his last success, but this strong finisher has often been thereabouts in really competitive events off higher figures, including when third in last season’s Ayr Bronze Cup off 104.
He’s down to 101 with his rider offsetting 7lb, so from a favourable high draw, and his trainer in good form, I can see him exceeding market expectations with six places widely available.
