UK Horse Racing Tips: Wexford

KARA DE THAIX didn't get far on her return at Kilbeggan recently but may be worth another chance here. The Jeu St Eloi mare hung badly left there a fortnight ago before being taken out of the race before the fifth flight. She had run well in a decent maiden hurdle when third at Fairyhouse back in January and on that form she's up to winning a race of this standard. Fool Me Once disappointed on his last outing at Downpatrick but had been runner-up at the same venue before that and would be a big player on previous form. Cosmos D'ainay, a Sligo bumper winner, weakened tamely on his hurdling debut at Tipperary and is better than that run.

CHOSEN SHANT showed her rivals a clean pair of heels around here 15 days ago and can repeat the dose. Letting her do her own thing in front then seemed to make all the difference and if she gets away on the lead again the Shantou mare could take a bit of pegging back again, despite a 9lb hike for that victory. Influential Lady is a consistent sort at this level and ran a solid race when third at Kilbeggan last time. She should be thereabouts again. Paul's Dream showed improvement when runner-up here last time and is another for the shortlist.

Dual course and distance winner INCHIQUIN STAR may be worth a shot in this. The Mount Nelson mare won on this card last year when taking the preceding mares event. She has been in winning form on the Flat this season and looks on a competitive mark now back over timber. Bowensonfire takes a drop in class after lining up in the Galway Hurdle last week. Unfortunately he unseated at the first after getting hampered but had been in fine form previously and commands respect. Red Glory made a winning return at Tipperary last month and is another that has to be considered.

TECHNOLOGY looks capable of landing one of these off his current mark. The Yeats gelding led briefly turning for home here last time before fading a touch late on when fourth to Tackletommywoowoo. He is tried in a hood now and it would be no surprise if they held on to him a bit longer. Bayou Belle has been running consistently and has to have a shout in this grade having been eased a couple of pounds since her fourth placed effort at Kilbeggan. Connections try her over further now. Dont Tell Shirley, a point-to-point winner last November, remains unexposed and money for her would be interesting.

CLOSE ENOUGH may be able to turn the tables with Small Town Hero after losing out in a good duel here last time. The Yeats mare looked to have his measure turning for home then but the latter ground out victory in the closing stages to post a half-length victory as the pair pulled clear. Close Enough is 4lb better off now and gets the vote this time. Small Town Hero commands the utmost respect and stays well so a strong pace will suit him. Corkbeg has won here previously and looks on a competitive mark. He could be place material.

Having stayed on late when third over half-a-mile shorter here last month. KIR ROYAL BLUE can register a first success. In a race where the eventual winner stole a march on her rivals and, was never for catching, the Liam Burke-trained gelding did well to fill the frame. A lightly-raced son of Stormy River, he should be capable of further improvement now faced with a greater test of stamina. Knockraha Eagle, who finished fourth over course and distance last time, should be involved once again. Others to note are We'llgowats and Mephisto.

Recent course and distance runner-up FEAR THE DEERE can go one place better. Leading two out on his recent visit here, the Tim Doyle-trained gelding stayed on well for minor honours, having been headed on the run-in. While that effort marked a huge improvement on previous form, the seven-year-old has to be given another chance at a track he clearly appreciates. Kilbeggan second My Good Pal has to be a contender under the same conditional rider. With that being his best run since joining Gavin Cromwell, there was promise of better to come. Kalaroun, who finished runner-up in a maiden hurdle over course and distance in May, should also be very competitive.

The consistent FRAHER FIELD has every chance of recording a first career victory. Runner-up at Killarney last month, the daughter of Order Of St George had also taken minor honours on her previous two starts. With the benefit of those experiences to call upon, the John Gleeson partnered five-year-old sets a fair standard in a race of this nature. As an unraced Willie Mullins-trained newcomer, Are You Around commands obvious respect. As a half-sister to a point-to-point/handicap chase winner, she may just prefer more of a stamina test. However, given her trainers excellent record at this track, she has to enter calculations. Another debutant, Clarnagh Maid, should also be considered on her introduction.
