MR KING (best price 9/1) is much more effective horse on better ground (not the best form on soft) but even if conditions aren’t in his favour, surely he’s very well handicapped, so I’ll give him a chance regardless of the ground description.
He met major traffic issues at Haydock last time out (repeatedly denied a run) and has been left on the same mark. Twelve months ago, he came very close to winning this event when third by a narrow margin and that came off a figure of 90.
Iain Jardine’s charge is now 9lb lower, with a low weight to carry under a jockey that rides this course well. If he can overcome conditions should they turn out, then there’s every chance of him going two places better this time.

Karl Burke and Clifford Lee have been flying in recent weeks and SILKY WILKIE (best price 11/1) is fancied to potentially gain a first win in nearly two and a half years with plenty in his favour.
It was on this day of the meeting twelve months ago that he finished runner-up in the Ayr Gold Cup off a mark of 99. He’s gradually fallen down the handicap since despite placing twice since, including when third at York two weeks ago.

That effort came off an unchanged mark of 86, which is 13lb lower than his excellent effort in the main event last year. With his sights lowered in the Silver Cup, I think he’s got a right chance.
This six-year-old has form on soft and good ground, so whatever the conditions are, it will not faze him. He’s so well treated and looks standout each-way value to me.
