Architect's Best Bets for Saturday's ITV Racing
14.40 Newmarket - LADY OF SPAIN (9/2 generally) 0.5 POINTS EACH-WAY
The unbeaten LADY OF SPAIN is fancied to take the rise in class in her stride in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes for Varian and Dawson.
A winner of her first four all-weather starts, she was returning from a long absence when contesting the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown last month.

- Fast log-in
- Smooth navigation
- Large array of markets
Considering she was making her turf debut, encountering soft ground for the first time as well as conceding match fitness, she won with plenty to spare. If anything, she was drawing clear towards the finish.
Roger Varian’s filly is sure to come on plenty for that run, so there’s every possibility that she’ll prove even stronger this time on a sounder surface.
We don’t know the ceiling of her ability, so at available each-way odds, I’ll pin my hopes on her hopefully serving it up to some very good opponents.
15.00 Ascot
CELANDINE (12/1 generally) 0.5 POINTS EACH-WAY
Everything happened all too fast for CELANDINE in the Nunthorpe last time out when dropped in trip, but back at her optimum trip, I fancy her to have a big say in this less-taxing event.
Ed Walker’s filly is a Group 2 winner and did well to finish where she did when last seen after having a poor start, which immediately set her on the back foot and cost her any chance of success.
She will find this easier and she’s drawn well in stall 13 to get a handy pitch down the stands rail. I think this course will also suit, so being favourably treated at the weights, I like her claims.
15.35 Ascot
JUMBY (33/1, 5 places, BOG) 0.5 POINTS EACH-WAY
This is a wide-open handicap with a chance taken on Eve Johnson Houghton’s JUMBY, who has no weight on his back with his rider claiming 7lb, and has become very well handicapped.
Charles Bishop is on Great Acclaim, but this seven-year-old has wrongfully been overlooked in the market. He’s a C&D winner and a former Group 2 winner with lots of good efforts in defeat to his name.
He’s drawn fairly well in stall eight and he’s actually run consistently this year, including two placed efforts in the summer off higher figures. I recommend backing him with most firms paying five places.
