Steve Ryder picks out three free tips at Ascot on Champions Day.
14:45 Ascot
Tip 1: Waardah - Ascot 14:45 - 0.5pt ew
The likes of Kalpana, One Look and Quisisana all run here following quick runs in France a fortnight ago and I am willing to take them on with the progressive WAARDAH (best priced at 15/2). Three-year-olds have won nine of the previous eleven renewals and the Owen Burrows trained filly has looked progressive on her previous two starts.

Waardah won a listed race at Goodwood over 1m2f on soft ground before winning the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes at the same track over 1m6f on good ground. She beat the re-opposing Danielle that day and she shouldn’t be inconvenienced by this drop back to 1m4f.
15:25 Ascot
Tip 2: Never So Brave - 15:25 Ascot - 0.5pt ew
If Field Of Gold runs up to his official rating of 126 then he will prove difficult to beat in receipt of 3lbs from his elders but his time off after his defeat in the Sussex Stakes is off putting.
NEVER SO BRAVE (best priced at 15/2) was beaten on his reappearance at Chester but has since progressed to win a Royal Ascot handicap, the Group 2 Summer Miles Stakes here on the round course and the Group 1 City Of York Stakes last time.
The form of his latest victory looks strong with the third Maranoa Charlie winning the Prix de la Foret on his next start and connections of Never So Brave will be thrilled to avoid the usual soft ground encountered at this meeting. With no doubts about trip, track or ground then he looks sure to run well.
16:05 Ascot
Tip 3: Calandagan - 16:05 Ascot - (1pt)
This is the third time Ombudsman and Delacroix have faced each other but I prefer the chances of last year’s runner-up CALANDAGAN (best priced at 5/2). The Francis-Henri Graffard trained four-year-old is the model of consistency with career form figures of 312111222211 including Group 1 victories on his previous two starts.

Calandagan has twice won at Ascot including in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes last time and the presence of pacemakers in this 1m2f contest should suit him extremely well. The larger field of 11 will mean a few jockeys will need luck late on in the race but Mickael Barzalona now knows the horse well and I expect him to challenge widest of all and stay on best at the finish.
