Steve Ryder has picked out three tips for Thursday's racing action, including two at the Chelmsford meeting.
Newcastle 13:38
Tip 1: 13:38 Newcastle - Couldbeaweapon - 1pt Win
11/8 best price and widely available at the time of publishing.
The Sam England trained COULDBEAWEAPON (best priced at 11/8) has won his previous two starts and gets to run here off the same mark as his 17-length victory at Sedgefield last time. The eight-year-old won at Southwell at the start of the month off a mark of 80 before following up by 17 lengths at Sedgefield last time off a mark of 88.
The handicapper has raised Couldbeaweapon 10lbs up to a mark of 98 for that impressive victory but as it was in a conditional jockeys’ race, he gets to run here off the same mark without a penalty. Tom Midgley retains the ride and he should prove hard to beat if in the same form 11 days later.
Chelmsford City 18:15
Tip 2: 18:15 Chelmsford - Fouette - 1pt Win
7/2 best price and widely available when publishing.
Al Joory has been running consistently well in handicaps but preference instead goes to FOUETTE (best priced at 7/2) who defied a 425-day break and SP of 25/1 to win at Southwell last time.
The James Horton trained filly had shown good form in maiden and novice races before winning from the rear last time by 1 ¼ lengths.
There looks to be a strong pace in this race which will suit the running style of Fouette and she is expected to win this off a 6lb higher mark.
Chelmsford City 19:15
Tip 3: 19:15 Chelmsford - Dark Side Prince - 1pt Win
7/4 widely available when publishing.
Juno Star runs here from 4lbs “well in” at the weights but the drop in grade should mean that DARK SIDE PRINCE (best priced at 7/4) can record his sixth course and distance success here. The Jessica Macey trained eight-year-old has won here previously off marks as high as 67 and was only beaten a length last time when 4th in 0-65 handicap.
Dark Side Prince now drops into this 0-60 handicap off a mark of 57 which is his lowest rating since 2021 and he should prove hard to beat from Stall 2.
