However, KNOMOREDIAMONDS came home in splendid isolation on his return to action in a Hexham handicap and, switching to novice company, there could be more to come. Market support for hurdling newcomer Tormund Giantsbane would be interesting, while Lost Frequencies is still open to improvement.

Having tasted defeat only once in five outings over fences last season, TELEPATHIQUE ended her campaign with a Listed victory at Huntingdon. Lucy Wadham's charge got the better of subsequent Mares' Chase runner-up Brides Hill and she should take all the beating if returning in the same heart. Paggane arrives on the back of a close-up second over hurdles at Chepstow and is feared most, ahead of Apple Away.

KAPAL LAYAR progressed throughout last season and ended the campaign with an impressive win in a handicap at Perth in April. That form has worked out well and the six-year-old may have enough improvement left to come to defy a 9lb rise on his return. Siog Geal won a valuable Grade 2 handicap at Newbury when last seen in March and is another to note. Personal Ambition and Florida Dreams complete the shortlist.

HANDSTANDS found significant improvement when switched to fences last season and put in a career best when beating subsequent Arkle winner Jango Baie in the Scilly Isles at Sandown in February. He was badly hampered when pulled up at Aintree on his sole subsequent start and Ben Pauling's gelding can make amends on his return. Resplendent Grey won the bet365 Gold Cup when last seen and could prove to be the main threat, ahead of The Kalooki Kid.

VAL DANCER made a winning seasonal debut in this contest last year prior to landing the Welsh Grand National. He's 6lb higher than for that Chepstow success, but Mel Rowley's eight-year-old could prove even stronger this term and looks one to keep on the right side of. O'Connell enjoyed plenty of success in staying chases last season, culminating with a victory at Sandown and a second in the Eider. He's marginally preferred to Inis Oirr and Jet Legs, who are closely matched on recent running here.

Admiralty House was just denied at Fakenham back in March and looks on a fair mark on his first start for a new yard. Dunnet Head has also switched trainers and is another to consider given he won this contest in 2023 and went close over 2m4f at this fixture last season. Saying that, WOODLAND PARK returned the impressive winner of a maiden hurdle at Leicester around this time last year and Olly Murphy's charge could prove better than his opening mark on his reappearance.
