Horse 1: July Flower

Trainer: Henry De Bromhead

Notes: A 143 rated hurdler in Ireland, 148 rated in UK when heading into Cheltenham Festival. Made a brilliant start over fences when winning at Limerick. She was slick, low, and aggressive at her fences and could be a big player in the 2m Novice Division. Henry De Bromhead isn’t scared of pitching high class mares against the boys and she is likely to take in The Arkle trial in November. One to keep on your radar for this season with a view to The Arkle itself. I’ve backed her and time will tell if good enough but it wouldn’t be the first time Henry De Bromhead gets significant improvement from a horse going chasing.

When is she a bet: Arkle Trial & The Arkle

Horse 2: Vol Royale

Trainer: Kayley Woollacott

Notes: Finished fifth at Chepstow this week and one who you were drawn to when travelling very well through majority of his race even though he was sent off at 80/1. He travelled through the race well as mentioned and even though he was a tad keen in parts, that would suggest that if he settles better then he’s certainly one to keep tabs on going forward. The 2m trip would be his distance for the time being with his keen going nature but this run may well have taken some of the fizz out of him. He was looked after once any chances from a win perspective had vanished but there would appear to be a nice engine under this bonnet.

When is he a bet: He would be more than capable of winning a weaker Novice Hurdle but I will be waiting for handicaps with just one more run needed to qualify for a mark over hurdles.

Horse 3: Double Measure

Trainer: Dan Skelton

Notes: A second runner from Chepstow that went into the notebook this week and the Skeleton’s had a lot of runners that drew attention at this meeting but the pick of them for me was Double Measure who finished second in a Maiden Hurdle. He travelled powerfully through the race on debut and if asked more of a question I’ve no doubt he may have been the winner. Harry Skelton went to go for his pro-cush to ask for more from his ride but eventually that didn’t transpire and the all hands and heels ride will have been a frustrating one for any backers but he’s one to keep onside moving forward and looks a nice sort who’s jumping is likely to improve for this run. He is likely not going to be missed in the market but one to track nevertheless.

When is he a bet: A Novice Hurdle, most likely next time up depending on the opposition.
