Steve Ryder has given us three racing tips for Monday's action, including a 14/1 shot at Newcastle.
3:30 Exeter
Special John 5/2 (1pt)
The Sam Thomas stable remain in fantastic form operating at a 47% strike rate so far this season (8/17) as well as Vincenzo finishing 2nd in the Paddy Power Gold Cup on his reappearance. SPECIAL JOHN (best priced at 5/2) makes his stable debut here having joined from Alexandra Dunn at the end of last season with a record of 0-5 under rules. The six-year-old ran with credit on his final three starts over hurdles but should improve for going chasing as he won a PTP prior to running under rules.
Move With The Beat is respected given his record in PTPs but Special John’s form is easier to assess and he should make a winning stable and chasing debut.
3:35 Newcastle
Teumessias Fox 5/1 (1pt)
This looks a competitive 0-105 handicap but a chance is taken on TEUMESSIAS FOX (best priced at 5/1) who wasn’t suited by how the race was run last time at Kempton. The Andrew Balding trained six-year-old has shown his best form on the AW with a record of 4-11 in comparison to his record of 1-20 on turf.
Midnite
Teumessias Fox is now back down to his previous winning mark of 100 and he is also a previous course and distance winner by 8 ½ lengths in 2022. He can bounce back to form in this race.
6:10 Newcastle
The Caltonian 14/1 (0.5pt ew)
Form figures of 080070 are hardly inspiring for THE CALTONIAN (best priced at 14/1) but he is now back over at this track in Class 3 company for the first time since finishing a close 2nd off a mark of 93 in February. The Linda Perratt trained six-year-old is a five-time course winner and he is only 1lb higher than when winning in Class 2 company on New Year’s Day by a length.
The Caltonian found 7f too far after a 73 day break last time but is now down to a mark of 89 and he looks overpriced with four places widely available.
