Freshers Week carried a penalty for his hurdling debut victory at Market Rasen when second at Ludlow last time. REAL QUARTZ may have more success defying a penalty, given he landed the odds with the minimum of fuss at Carlisle on his Rules debut and first start for Dan Skelton. He looks a potentially smart recruit to the hurdling ranks and is also preferred to Wetherby runner-up Uptown Dandy and Name Me Nicely.
Prediction : 1st Real Quartz 2nd Freshers Week 3rd Uptown Dandy

Zurich has looked an improved chaser this season and scored nicely at Cheltenham in October to land a double. The Irish raider can feature again, but JORDANS CROSS may edge a tight contest. Anthony Honeyball's five-year-old won at Aintree on his chasing bow and was still in contention at Cheltenham last month when coming a cropper at the last. He looks worthy of another chance, while Warwick winner Go West is not out of this either.
Prediction : 1st Jordans Cross 2nd Zurich 3rd Go West

Winning hurdler SPADESTEP made a pleasing debut over the larger obstacles when runner-up at Aintree in October. This looks less competitive and the six-year-old has plenty of scope for improvement with a tongue strap applied for the first time. Rumoursareflying has been raised 4lb for scoring at Ludlow but that's unlikely to prevent another bold bid, while last-start Cartmel fourth Willie Shake Hands is expected to fare better in this lower grade.
Prediction : 1st Spadestep 2nd Rumoursareflying 3rd Willie Shake Hands

Connections of HEATHER HONEY have resisted the temptation of pitching her into the Listed race later on the card and the decision can pay off. The six-year-old ran well to a point when heading the market for an Aintree class 3 before staying on strongly to reward those favourite-backers who kept the faith at Catterick. Her stablemate Romeo Brown and Stratton Oakmont also arrive in winning form, with the latter feared most after showing the benefit of a wind operation at Exeter. Betty's Tiara also has claims now back in a handicap.
Prediction : 1st Heather Honey 2nd Stratton Oakmont 3rd Bettys Tiara

Dan Skelton switches Joyeux Machin and PRINCE ZALTAR back to fences and it is the last-named who makes most appeal. The eight-year-old beat all bar subsequent winner Kikijo at Cheltenham and is able to compete here from the same mark. Docpickedme made the frame in the Rehearsal and is now back to the rating from which he landed the Great Yorkshire over C&D. The Venetia Williams stable is clicking into gear and Alcedo played a part in that when successful on ground that probably wasn't as testing as he'd like at Newcastle.
Prediction : 1st Prince Zaltar 2nd Docpickedme 3rd Alcedo

This appears to be a simple task for KATEIRA. Dan Skelton's mare scored at Wetherby in a match against Champion Hurdle heroine Golden Ace, who scoped dirty afterwards before going on to land a dramatic Fighting Fifth. The selection then finished fourth in the Ascot Hurdle and a repeat of either effort would be more than enough. World Of Fortunes was runner-up in Listed company at Limerick in October and has to enter calculations along with Bethpage, who produced a career-best effort when second at Kempton last time.
Prediction : 1st Kateira 2nd World Of Fortunes 3rd Bethpage

Bowmore has proved a lot happier since being switched back to hurdles. The seven-year-old won well at Newbury last month and is expected to be in the mix again, but a chance is taken with AMANCIO. He has progressed nicely over timber and goes into handicap company fresh from a comfortable victory at Sedgefield. Lanesborough improved in handicaps earlier in the year and has to be of interest on his return to action.
Prediction : 1st Amancio 2nd Bowmore 3rd Lanesborough
