Steve Ryder picks out five free racing tips at Saturday including a 4-point winner at Leopardstown.
12:30 Chepstow
Tip 1: Zambezi Fix - 0.5pt EW
Best odds of 8/1 at William Hill during publishing.
The Bernard Llewellyn-trained ZAMBEZI FIX (best priced at 8/1) has an excellent record at Chepstow in his career, and he can win for a fourth time over this course and distance. The ten-year-old runs here off a career low mark of 111, with his three previous victories coming off marks of 120, 120, and 121, including on this day in 2023.
Zambezi Fix ended last season with two runner-up efforts over this course and distance off marks of 116 and 115 and has now dropped down the ratings based on two efforts this season at Uttoxeter and Newton Abbot. Returning back to Chepstow is a huge positive, and he can outrun his odds with Gavin Sheehan taking over on board for the first time.
13:12 Leopardstown
Tip 2: Majborough - 4pt
Best odds of 7/4 at Unibet while publishing.
The drying ground will suit Champion Chase winner Marine Nationale, but the return to Leopardstown should mean MAJBOROUGH (best priced at 7/4) gets back to winning ways. The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old has won three of his first starts over fences, including an impressive nine-length victory over this course and distance in the Irish Arkle last season.
Majborough jumped left-handed when making his reappearance at Cork, trying to concede weight to a race-fit Found A Fifty when he was only beaten 1 ½ lengths at the finish. Hopefully, Solness gives him a lead into the race, and I expect him to put in a dominant performance.
13:47 Leopardstown
Tip 3: Koktail Brut - 0.5pt EW
Best odds of 9/1 at bet365 while publishing.
Jack Kennedy appears to have opted to ride Skylight Hustle over KOKTAIL BRUT (best priced at 9/1), but the latter should hold strong claims of remaining unbeaten. The Gordon Elliot stable remains in fantastic form, and this is a race that they have won four times in the previous six years with Abacadabras, Mighty Potter, Caldwell Potter, and Romeo Coolio.
Koktail Brut wasn’t a top-level performer in bumpers but has relished the transition to hurdling, winning at both Punchestown and Fairyhouse. He won the Grade 2 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle on his previous start, and despite making the running, he looks like he will perform better when getting a lead. Danny Gilligan, who rode him to win on his hurdling debut, is back on board, and he should run well.
13:55 Kempton
Tip 4: Mambonumberfive - 1pt
Best odds of 2/1 at SpreadEx while publishing.
Ben Pauling and Ben Jones combined to win the King George VI Chase yesterday, and hopefully they can team up to win this Grade 2 with MAMBONUMBERFIVE (best priced at 2/1). The four-year-old cost 450,000 euros last year prior to winning the Grade 2 Adonis Juvenile Hurdle at this track last season.
The form of both of his victories so far this season over fences has been boosted, including when Mighty Bandit, who finished 2nd by two lengths last time, won on his next start, and the third Secret Des Dieux finished a close 4th at this track yesterday. He gets weight from his rivals and looks the one to beat.
15:00 Leopardstown
Tip 5: Backmersackme - 1pt EW
Best odds of 7/1 at 888sport while publishing.
Owner Paul Byrne has a strong hand with both Ballysax Hank and BACKMERSACKME (best priced at 7/1), with preference going to the latter at the foot of the weights. The Emmet Mullins-trained six-year-old ran well to finish 2nd at Cheltenham at the October meeting, and the form of that has received multiple boosts since. The winner, Three Card Brag, went on to finish 2nd in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury and is now rated 7lbs higher, the third, Hoe Joly Smoke ran well on his next two starts at Cheltenham off a 2lb higher mark and the fourth The Short Go ran well to finish 3rd on his next start at Cheltenham off 4lb higher mark.
Backmersackme runs here off only a 1lb higher mark off a mark of 125, and he should run well carrying only 10-1 under Jake Coen.
