1:20 CLONMEL – CHARLUS – 2pt WIN

Best odds of 15/8 available at time of publishing.

It looks a match on paper, sadly things don’t always work out how they look, but, Charlus looks fair game to come out on top in it.

An easy heavy ground winner on the flat in France, he won a soft-heavy maiden hurdle on debut for Willie Mullins.

He was then thrown in the deep end on his second start for the yard when contesting the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

He contested the Copper Horse Stakes at Royal Ascot, was third at Galway on the flat, before running in the Ebor at York, so tough flat gigs.

He was runner-up to his stablemate back over hurdles last time out, but that winner has ran in deep graded race himself, including when fifth at the Dublin Racing Festival in a Grade 1 behind subsequent Supreme Novice winner, Kopek Des Bordes.

He will handle the ground, and is the choice of Paul Townend, so should get back to winning ways all said and done.
