6:30 CHELMSFORD – SMASHER – 0.5pt EW

Best odds of 11/2 available at time of publishing.

The Michael Attwater trained SMASHER (best priced at 11/2) has been running well on the AW recently and is well drawn in Stall 3 for this race. The six-year-old has won five times over this trip of 6f on the AW off marks between 52 and 57 so he remains well handicapped off a mark of 54.

Smasher looked the most likely winner 1f out at Kempton last time but weakened into 5th having chased a strong pace and the handicapper has been generous dropping him 1lb for that effort. Although he hasn’t won at Chelmsford, the return to this track should suit and he looks sure to run well.

7:00 CHELMSFORD – POWER QUEST – 1pt WIN

Best odds of 16/1 available at time of publishing.

POWER QUEST (best priced at 16/1) ran well in his first three bumper runs at Exeter when 3rd beaten only 1 ½ lengths and he is now interesting upped in trip for his handicap debut on the flat. Archie Watson has run the four-year-old over 7f, 1m and 1m1½f in three novice races on the AW when sent off big prices but as a result he has been given an opening mark of 54 on the flat.

The good run from Power Quest came in blinkers at Exeter so it is interesting that his three qualifying runs have been without headgear on and now first-time cheekpieces are fitted for this flat handicap debut. He is upped in trip to 1m5½f and he looks worth backing with Luke Morris on board.
