Ryder leans on proven C&D form in two confident Thursday plays.
15:20 Lingfield
TOMMY’S PROMISE – 15:20 LINGFIELD – 1pt WIN
Best odds 9/4 available at time of publishing.
The John Ryan trained TOMMY’S PROMISE has won his previous four starts including his previous three over this course and distance. The five-year-old only won by a short head last time but the runner-up Eupator has won twice since by 5 lengths and 3¾ lengths off a 7lb higher mark and will be re-assessed on Tuesday morning.
Tommy’s Promise runs here off only a 5lb higher mark which should mean he remains well handicapped and he gets to run in this 0-70 grade once again. He should prove hard to beat with Donagh Murphy, who rode him to win over this course and distance twice in December, back on board claiming 7lbs.
15:43 Ayr
BALLYFORT – 15:43 AYR – 0.5pt EW
Best odds 11/2 available at time of publishing.
This looks a competitive 0-120 handicap but preference goes to BALLYFORT who arrives here in good form having won over this course and distance last time. The Nick Alexander trained gelding fell and unseated his rider on his two chasing attempts last season but has won two of his three starts over fences this season.
Ballyfort won at Kelso in October before making a few mistakes when 3rd a month later. He won a four-runner contest here last time off a mark of 103 and he races here off only 3lbs higher. He looks a progressive eight-year-old and he should be involved in the finish.
