Tip 1: SPIKE JONES

(1.5pt WIN @ 4/1)

I’m sweet on the chances of Spike Jones, who has won over a long trip like this, has won on heavy so clearly likes underfoot conditions that he will get here, and is a winner in this class, and takes a drop in class here.

First time up this season he ran in a better class when beaten a nose by one now rated 133 having won subsequently since.

He was then beaten half a length at Cheltenham in December off three pounds higher.

He fell in January when pitched in a Class 2, the winner being Ma Shantou, who’s now shorter for the Stayers Hurdle, but ultimately too early to tell how close the selection would have went.

He was beaten 12 lengths at Windsor two starts ago when seventh in another Class 2, but that was a deep race, and the third came out and won a Grade 2 at the weekend.

A Grade 3 when last seen at the end of January yielded a staying on fourth over two-mile-seven, where the winner next ran second in that Grade 2 mentioned at the weekend gone.

He’s dropped three pounds since that run, and is one pound below his last winning mark, this time with seven pounds claimed off.

As mentioned, a big class drop for Spike Jones, and although he has to get back on track, he has his conditions he likes in order to do so.

Tip 1: COMMUNITY REBEL

(1pt WIN @ 5/1)

Today may not be the day, but I’m willing to chance Community Rebel as he’s so well handicapped.

There is a short priced favourite at the time of writing, but he has to burden 12 stone, and I’m willing to take a flyer on Community Rebel getting back on track if on a going day.

Tip 3 - PITT BOSS

(2pt WIN @ 10/3)

Looked an unlucky loser here last week, as so often plenty do at this track, but he didn’t find any sort of gap and mowed them down to be just denied at the line.

He has five pounds taken off after being raised a pound, and the step back to seven should be ok having got up to win over six furlongs two starts ago.

Live danger to Lord Capulet and should at least go close to making amends for an agonising defeat last time out, if not better.
