Horses ridden by Mr E Cagney, in handicap races with 16+ previous runs, have won 15 out of 78 races and placed in 42. This gives a win rate of 19.23% and a place rate of 53.85%.
This five-year-old shaped better than the bare result two weeks ago, only getting organised late on after a 15-week absence. He should strip fitter for that outing and is now back on a mark that gives him a genuine chance if putting his best foot forward.
Admittedly, his profile has been patchy, but the yard is enjoying a solid spell and this easier setup in an amateur riders’ handicap could be key. With one of the more accomplished riders in the line-up taking over, there’s enough in his favour to suggest he could outrun generous odds.

Staniel Cay
- Best Original Odds:11/1
- Shortest Live Odds: 9/2
- Swing: 50%
- Best Odds: 5/1 bet365
Staniel Cay is an intriguing contender representing AMO Racing Limited, whose runners over this trip when not winning last time out boast an impressive record — two wins from eight and six hitting the frame. A 75% place strike-rate suggests their horses are often competitive in this scenario.
This three-year-old makes his first appearance on an artificial surface, but there’s encouragement in the pedigree. He’s by Starman, who himself broke his maiden over this very course and distance at three, and the dam line contains multiple winners, hinting there’s more to come as he matures.
Lightly raced with just a couple of starts at the back end of last summer, he’s been off since August. His yard is capable of readying one after a break, and with a capable jockey booked, market support would be significant.
This isn’t without risk given his inexperience and the fact others bring stronger recent form, but he’s unexposed on the surface and open to improvement. If he takes a step forward at three, he could easily outrun his price.

There’s a useful ownership angle to consider here. Horses owned by Lady Emma O'Shea and A. Carson at Lingfield, when not arriving off the back of a win, have struck three times from nine runners, with five making the frame. A 33% win rate and better than 55% placing suggests they target this venue effectively.
This nine-time all-weather winner has plenty of experience between 5f and 7f and knows his way around artificial surfaces. His latest effort, when beaten five lengths here over 6f, can be viewed as a step forward fitness-wise after needing his first couple of runs of the year.
Now dropping a further 3lb, he looks to be edging towards a very workable mark. With those recent outings likely to have sharpened him up, and given his proven record on the all-weather, he looks capable of bouncing back.
If building on that latest run, he should be firmly in the mix and has solid each-way credentials at a track his connections clearly do well at.

There’s a fair ownership angle to note. Horses owned by Jane Edgar and D V Gardner in handicaps with 16 or more previous runs have hit the frame 11 times from 25 attempts. While the win strike-rate sits at 8%, the 44% place return suggests their more exposed types can often sneak into the money at rewarding prices.
This gelding drops a further 3lb in the weights and now sports first-time cheekpieces - a move that could sharpen him up. He was well held last time at Taunton, but that came in a deeper contest and he’s now edging down to a mark that gives him a fighting chance.
The market support is worth noting, especially for a horse whose profile doesn’t immediately leap off the page.
With the headgear potentially sparking improvement and the handicapper offering some relief, he shapes as a solid each-way proposition.
