Triumph Hurdle

Selma De Vary - Triumph Hurdle - 13:20

Selma De Vary looks a fascinating contender in the Triumph Hurdle and could take a significant step forward after an eye-catching debut for Willie Mullins.

The French import made an immediate impression on her first start in Ireland when finishing a strong-finishing second behind the highly regarded Narciso Has in a Grade 1 contest. Considering she was thrown straight into deep waters on stable debut, the performance suggested plenty of natural ability and hinted that there is more to come with experience.

That run also indicated she may benefit from a stronger pace and a more patiently timed ride. In what looks likely to be a strongly run race with plenty of early speed, her ability to settle and finish strongly could prove a major advantage in the closing stages.

Connections add further confidence. Willie Mullins has an outstanding recent record in this race, winning five of the last six runnings, and the booking of stable jockey Paul Townend suggests Selma De Vary is highly regarded within the yard.

With natural improvement expected after her promising debut, a strong pace likely to play to her strengths, and the powerful Mullins-Townend combination behind her, Selma De Vary looks capable of taking a big leap forward and landing this prize.

Mares' Chase

Panic Attack - Mares' Chase - 14:40

Panic Attack arrives at Cheltenham in the form of her life and looks a leading contender to continue her remarkable resurgence for Dan Skelton.

Since switching yards, the ten-year-old has improved dramatically, winning four of her last five starts and thriving over fences. Her standout performance came in November when she powered clear to land the Paddy Power Gold Cup over this course and distance, showing she handles Cheltenham’s demanding track extremely well.

She followed that with another commanding display just two weeks later in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury, pulling clear of a large field to underline her stamina and class in competitive handicaps. Any concerns about those tough efforts were quickly dismissed when she returned to Newbury in January, cruising to a dominant 14-length victory in a Listed mares’ chase.

That sequence of victories highlights a mare operating at the peak of her powers. She arrives fresh after a short break, receives weight from key rivals, and remains unbeaten over fences for the Skelton team.

With proven Cheltenham form, relentless recent performances, and a yard enjoying an excellent season, Panic Attack looks primed to extend her winning run and land another major prize.

Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle

Doctor Steinberg - Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle - 15:20

Doctor Steinberg brings an unbeaten profile into this contest and looks a major player as he continues his rapid rise through the novice ranks.

The six-year-old has made a flawless start over hurdles, winning all three of his starts and progressing with each run. After landing a Grade 2 at Navan by nearly five lengths – beating the well-regarded Thedeviluno – he stepped up again last time at Leopardstown, producing an emphatic display to land a Grade 1 by eight lengths.

That performance suggested he is a horse still improving. Despite travelling keenly during the race, he powered clear late on, hinting that a stronger pace and a slightly longer trip could actually help him settle and show his finishing strength even more effectively.

He also ticks plenty of the key boxes for a race of this nature. He is the highest-rated runner in the field, has proven he can handle better ground, and comes from the powerful Willie Mullins yard, with Paul Townend maintaining a perfect record when riding him.

With an unbeaten record, top-level form already in the book, and further improvement likely over this trip, Doctor Steinberg looks well placed to extend his winning sequence and land another big prize.
