Liam Firkin has five horses he thinks are worth keeping an eye on.
Mr Lincoln
Trainer: Iain Jardine
What caught the eye: This grey was seen finishing a very narrow second on Sunday at Carlisle and was unlucky to go down by the short margin he did.
The wind op has clearly sorted whatever breathing issue he had and he is clearly on a competitive mark following this run. He was squeezed for room and had to be switched on the run in which momentarily stopped is momentum when looking to get into full stride. Additionally, he didn’t get the easiest of passages and had he not been pinned against the rail as the race started to unfold then he may well have won.
When is he a bet: One to keep onside for next time out providing the price is there to be had and once an assessment of the opposition has been completed.

Flash Man
Trainer: Toby Lawes
What caught the eye: This was a much improved performance from his first run when dropping in class for his second start over hurdles at Kempton on Monday. The four-year-old gelding showed a great attitude when being significantly inconvenienced at two out but stayed on well to grab third place and was doing all his best work at the finish.
He was bumped into when jumping the second last and landed awkwardly which resulted in him losing plenty of momentum but after being gathered together by Kevin Brogan he stayed on strongly through the line.
When is he a bet: One more run is now required to have a handicap mark allocated and he could be one for low class handicaps and a little more cut in the ground could potentially see him to even better effect.
Balboa
Trainer: Seamus Mullins
What caught the eye: This horse was tipped on Monday at Wincanton and ran a very good race into third for his first try out the trip and the added distance brought plenty of improvement from him. He’s sat on a mark that is 17lbs below what he achieved as a juvenile hurdler and I think it’s a matter of time before he takes advantage of that falling mark.
When is he a bet: Next time out in a staying handicap.
Dance A Jig
Trainer: Ralph Beckett
What caught the eye: This horse had no right to finish where he did in the opening race at Doncaster on Saturday having struggled to go the pace from the outset and looked to be beat after 2 furlongs but his attitude was great. He did stay on well but was squeezed for room and bumped around when asked to go through a gap that wasn’t really there, that was as followed by a stumble and
When is he a bet: Potentially one for next time out

On The River
Trainer: Harriet Bethell
What caught the eye: He travelled strongly through the Mile race on Saturday at Doncaster and didn’t have the easiest of passages during the contest. Could be a horse to follow down in class given that On The River arrived here towards the bottom of the weights but ran a really promising race given it was his first appearance of the season.
When is he a bet: Next time out in a handicap now that he is below his last winning mark and is one that I am sure will be winning later this season.
