2:22 Leicester

2:22 Leicester- King’s Cavalry (2pt Win)

This looks a competitive novice race with three previous winners in the field as well as an 81 rated horse but preference goes to KING’S CAVALRY (best priced at 11/10) who made an extremely encouraging debut at Newmarket at the end of last season. The James Tate trained son of Kingman is a half-brother to Royal Dress who won a Group 3 and two listed races for these connections and he outran odds of 50/1 to finish 6th in a strong Newmarket novice race in October. The form of that effort has been boosted with the 3rd, 4th and 5th all winning since and King’s Cavalry finishing only 5 ¼ lengths behind the winner that day.

James Tate gave an interesting quote about him around a month ago stating "He is a horse we like a lot, but he was a very babyish horse last year. We just literally had him ready for a run at Newmarket in October, and he ran really well. We put him away for the year, but he is now working really well, and I would expect to hear good things from him this year."

King’s Cavalry is expected to get off the mark at the second attempt in this contest in receipt of weight from his main market rivals.

7:00 Newcastle- The Caltonian (0.5pt ew)

THE CALTONIAN (best priced at 10/1) was sent off 11/2 favourite for the a valuable 5f handicap here in February but lost all chance that day with a tardy start. He had previously showed good form over this 6f trip with a victory in a Class 2 handicap here off a mark of 88 when sent off an unfancied 33/1 shot.

Running back over his preferred trip of 6f, The Caltonian should be able to bounce back despite running off the same mark of 93 in this Class 3 contest.
