Steve Ryder has picked out three best betting tips for today's racing cards at Newbury and Thirsk.
1:25 Newbury
Tip 1: Touleen - 1pt
Best odds of 13/8 at Betfred while publishing.
This looks an interesting renewal of the Fred Darling this year but TOULEEN (best priced at 13/8) sets the standard with an official rating of 100. The Owen Burrows trained filly won impressively by 2 ¼ lengths over this course and distance on her debut last season before confirming that promise beating Zanthos by 3 ¼ lengths at Leicester on her next start under a penalty.
Although that rival reversed that form when Touleen was only 5th in the Rockfel Stakes on her final start last season, she appeared to either have a physical issue or didn’t handle the track at Newmarket. It is interesting that connections bring her back to Newbury for this race rather than the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket instead and she should bounce back to form back at this more conventional track.
3:23 Thirsk
Tip 2: Murashah - 1pt
Best odds of 9/4 at bet365 while publishing.
Double Rush was an impressive winner at Newmarket on Wednesday on his stable debut having left Charlie Hills and I am hoping that MURASHAH (best priced at 9/4) can do the same having joined Ed Bethell. The five-year-old hasn’t run since October 2024 but showed a good level of form prior to that winning at Haydock on his debut before finishing 2nd in two handicap starts off marks of 81 and 82.
Murashah hasn’t been gelded since his last run 560 days ago and is now fitted with a first-time hood on his stable debut. The handicapper has given him a chance dropping him to a mark of 79 after that absence and he looks the one to beat for a yard in form.

4:55 Newbury
Tip 3: Bulletin - 0.5pt EW
Best odds of 11/1 at BetVictor while publishing.
Jonny Portman and Rob Hornby combined to win this race in 2025 with Sweet Reward and hopefully BULLETIN (best priced at 11/1) can do the same this year. The four-year-old was progressive last season having won on his reappearance off a mark of 72, he ended the year rated 84. He has form figures of 423124423143 in his career so he is yet to run a bad race and has handled a range of tracks in that time.
This slight drop back in trip to 1m2f should suit Bulletin for his reappearance run and the stable have started this turf season in good form. He looks sure to run well with five places widely available.
