Horse: Imperial Trooper

Trainer: Jennie Candlish

What caught the eye: A horse who is clearly in good fettle given that he’s placed on three of his last four starts and there was a clear change in tactics given that Imperial Trooper is a horse who is usually sent forward and although he was being cajoled into the race earlier than most, he stayed on well to hit the frame and was doing all his best work at the finish of the race.

When is he a bet: I would like to see him line up over the same trip with a strong pace or over slightly further and he’d be of interest off his current mark of 71 and seemingly ground versatile so no issues with various going conditions.

Horse: Centaq

Trainer: Dermot McLoughlin

What caught the eye: The short answer to this is “the pull taken”

He was strongly travelling through the race and as it began to develop, just before the turn for home, the jockey took a pull on Centaq taking him back through the field when all the moment should have been going in the opposite direction. He still tanked through the race and stayed on to finish second but I think he’d have gotten much closer than the 8L deficit had he been kicked on sooner.

When is he a bet: Next time out in similar company
