Steve Ryder has two tips for the second day of racing at the Chester May Festival.
CAA Stellar Handicap
13:30 Chester
Hugo Palmer failed to have a winner on the opening day at Chester but three of his four horses did place and hopefully ROMAN DRAGON (best priced at 11/4) can provide connections with a winner at the meeting. The seven-year-old won this race last season off a mark of 95 and he has dropped back down to that same mark despite winning a listed race at this track in August.
Oisin Murphy has only ridden Roman Dragon once since their victory in this race last season so he is a notable booking and he is well drawn in Stall 3 to get a good position behind proven front runner Ruby’s Profit.
Boodles Raindance Dee Stakes
14:35 Chester
Constitution River 10/11 (1pt)
Aidan O’ Brien has won this race a record 12 times including seven of the previous eight renewals so CONSTITUTION RIVER (best priced at 10/11) is worthy of instant respect. The Wootton Bassett colt was 2nd behind Distant Storm on his debut before making all on his next two starts including in a Group 2 by two lengths. That running style should suit this track extremely well.
Constitution River receives 3lbs from Morshdi who is rated 1lb inferior and despite having to concede race fitness to that rival, he should prove hard to beat.
