Steve Ryder shares three betting angles for Sunday's Horse Racing cards at Longchamp and Leopardstown.
2:50 Longchamp
Tip 1: Puerto Rico - 1pt
Best odds of 11/10 at Coral while publishing.
Connections decided to run Gstaad, who ran a brilliant race to finish a clear 2nd, in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and save PUERTO RICO (best priced at 11/10) for this. The Wootton Bassett colt was highly tried at two before winning his final three races last season when upped in trip. A victory over subsequent Craven Stakes winner Oxagon at Doncaster was followed by two Group 1 successes in France in October.
With stablemate Dorset drawn four berths inside in Stall 3 expected to ensure there is a strong pace for him to aim at, Puerto Rico looks to hold strong claims of providing Aidan O’Brien with yet another Classic victory.
3:25 Longchamp
Tip 2: Narissa - 0.5pt EW
Best odds of 11/2 at William Hill while publishing.
Although NARISSA (best priced at 11/2) hasn’t won since her debut victory at Saint Cloud, her form looks strong for connections who have won this race for the previous two seasons. The Francis- Henri Graffard trained filly won by 8 lengths on her debut before placing on her next four starts. One of those was when 3rd behind the re-opposing Diamond Necklace in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac last season before finishing 2nd behind Evolutionist over this course and distance on her reappearance.
That rival went on to finish 2nd in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket but Narissa was the eyecatcher that day racing keenly in the rear before making some stylish late headway. She looks the biggest danger to Diamond Necklace.
3:40 Leopardstown
Tip 3: Endorsement - 1pt
Best odds of 9/2 at Unibet while publishing.
The market expects his stablemate Pierre Bonnard to reverse form with ENDORSEMENT (best priced at 9/2) but the latter looks overpriced to confirm that superiority. Aidan O’Brien has dominated the Derby and Oaks trials so far this week and it would be slightly surprising if he doesn’t win this race for a record 18th time.
Endorsement twice finished behind Pierre Bonnard last season but was given an enterprising ride by Ronan Whelan to finish a ½ length second in the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes behind Christmas Day, who is currently favourite for the Dante Stakes next week, with Pierre Bonnard a further 5 ½ lengths back in 7th. Connections now fit him with first-time cheekpieces and he looks capable of upsetting his stablemate.
