Rousing Encore (0.5pt ew)

Best price 10/1 at the time of publishing.

The Ruth Carr trained ROUSING ENCORE (best priced at 10/1) defied odds of 22/1 to win this race by 1 ¼ lengths last season and he looks to have been primed for a repeat bid off only a 6lb higher mark. The six-year-old ended last season with a close 3rd at Doncaster off a mark of 86 before finishing 2nd on his reappearance at Newcastle off a mark of 87.

Rousing Encore has only finished 5th on his previous two runs off a mark of 88 but has now dropped back down to a mark of 87 and he should run well from Stall 11 with up to six places available.

Quinault (0.5pt ew)

Best price 11/1 at the time of publishing.

This looks a competitive renewal of the Group 2 Minster Stakes but a chance is taken on QUINAULT (best priced at 11/1) who steps back up in trip having run well over 5f last time. The Stuart Williams trained six-year-old won his first three starts at this track including the Group 3 Criterion Stakes last season over 7f.

Quinault ended last season with a close 3rd in the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Ascot over this 6f trip and he could upset the likes of Kind Of Blue, Big Mojo and American Affair who are all making their reappearances in this race.

Beagle Bay (1pt)

Best price 5/6 at the time of publishing.

I was at Leicester when BEAGLE BAY (best priced at 5/6) ran well last time to finish 4th when carrying 10-9 against some talented three-year-olds. The Ralph Beckett trained gelding outran odds of 25/1 to finish a head 2nd on his debut at Newbury last season before justifying his short price to make a winning reappearance at Chelmsford.

The form of his latest run at Leicester has been boosted by the runner-up King’s Cavalry winning by 4 ¼ lengths on his next start who is now rated 82 and Beagle Bay now makes his handicap debut off an opening mark of 80. He is much less exposed than the majority of his rivals and should be able to justify his short price.
