Filey Beach (1pt)

The Ruth Carr trained FILEY BEACH (best priced at 5/4) is a two-time course and distance winner in his career and he escapes a penalty for his most recent success. The five-year-old was a comfortable 2 ¼ length winner last time off a mark of 54 and the handicapper has raised the gelding 5lbs for that victory.

That win was in an apprentice handicap so Filey Beach escapes a penalty and therefore runs from 5lbs “well in” at the weights. He should prove hard to beat only 10 days later.

5:13 Haydock

Trilby (1pt)

Wheels Of Fire is respected dropped into a 0-85 handicap but preference goes to TRILBY (best priced at 11/8) who has a good record at Haydock in his career and is now fitted with first-time cheekpieces. The Sam England trained six-year-old has form figures of 16121032 at this track with the latest of those victories coming off a mark of 78. He has now dropped down to a mark of 75 which is the same mark as when a close 2nd at Beverley on his penultimate start.

Hopefully first-time cheekpieces bring about improvement and that should mean that Trilby proves hard to beat.
