Steve Ryder is back with two selections on Thursday including a big each way play and a confident selection at Sandown.
5:00 Yarmouth
Regal Guest (0.5pt ew)
Best price 40/1.
If first-time cheekpieces a REGAL GUEST (best priced at 40/1) can spark him back to the form of his debut 2nd at Kempton then he should prove well handicapped off this mark of 62. The four-year-old cost 85,000gns as a yearling and finished 3rd in a smart Kempton novice race on his second start behind the 80 rated White Crown Star and the 103 rated Fearnot.
Since that run he hasn’t only beaten three horses home in four runs but shaped well at Newmarket on his previous start before weakening late on. Hopefully cheekpieces can mean his finishing effort improves and he looks worth taking a chance at a course where his trainer George Margarson has had the most winners (49) in his training career.
5:10 Sandown
Killavia (4pt)
Best price 8/1.
The Rod Millman trained KILLAVIA (best priced at 8/1) showed all of her best form over this course and distance last season and she could prove chucked in on her handicap debut off an opening mark of 85. She finished a close 2nd to the unbeaten 96 rated Rising Power here in a novice, finished 3rd behind the 101 rated Staya and 105 rated Military Code in the listed Dragon Stakes prior to winning a weak maiden here by 3 ¼ lengths.
Killavia struggled in Group 2 and listed level on her final two starts at Doncaster and York but now returns to this track for her handicap debut off a mark of 85. She looks the one to beat and hopefully she is fit enough after a 229 day break.
