4:05 Chepstow
Thanos (1pt)
Best price 8/11.
The Harry Charlton trained THANOS (best priced at 8/11) got off the mark at the seventh attempt last time when fitted with first-time cheekpieces and he should prove hard to beat under a 6lb penalty. The three-year-old had finished 2nd on all three of his previous starts in handicaps before showing improved form in first-time headgear to win by six lengths.
The handicapper has raised Thanos 10lbs for that success and he runs here under a 6lb penalty meaning he is 4lbs “well in” at the weights. He should prove hard to beat in the same grade off top weight.
6:05 Wolverhampton
Jack Sparowe (1pt)
Best price 3/1.
JACK SPAROWE (best priced at 3/1) ended a 19 race losing sequence going back until September 2023 when winning at Yarmouth last week when fitted with first-time blinkers. The John Butler trained seven-year-old has put in his best performances recently when fitted with cheekpieces so it came as no surprise to see an improved effort last time in first-time blinkers.
An impressive 3 ¼ lengths winner in a Class 5 0-70 handicap, Jack Sparowe runs in the same grade of race with the talented Henry Callan taking over on board in this Amateur jockeys’ race. He is yet to show his best form at Wolverhampton in his career but still looks the one to beat despite racing off a 6lb higher mark.
