MATTEO (best priced at 13/8) made a winning debut over this course and distance and he can make it 2/2 from the plum draw in Stall 1. There were lots of positives for him prior to his debut, he was a positive from the parade ring, he was well backed into 2/1 favourite, Cost 43k euros as a yearling and his dam was also a debut winner at 2 so was bred to be precocious. The Kevin Ryan stable are operating at a 30% strike rate with their 2yos this season and had Where Love Lives win the National Stakes at Sandown on Thursday evening.
The form of Matteo’s debut victory was worked out well with the runner-up Lauralynn winning by two lengths on her next start and she had the benefit of a run prior to his defeat of her on debut. Drawn well in Stall 1. He should prove be able to make all under Kevin Stott.

The William Haggas trained PRINCLING (best priced at 10/3) was workmanlike on his reappearance at Wetherby getting off the mark at the third attempt but he was strong at the line that day at this one-mile trip and is bred to be better over further. He is better judged on his 2nd to Yazin at Newmarket and the form of that race is red hot with the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th all winning since and Princling was slightly unlucky to be on the opposite side of the track to the winner that day as well.
An opening mark of 87 could underestimate Princling and he looks the one to beat under Tom Marquand.

The Ed Walker trained SECRET HISTORY (best priced at 6/1) steps up in trip to a mile for the first time and out of Fillies’ company but she looks to have been leniently treated off only a 2lb higher mark than last time. She was workmanlike over 6f on her reappearance having raced keenly when placed on her first two starts over 7f. They fitted her with a first-time hood for her Wetherby victory and dropped her in on a day when not many were coming from off the pace. She hung slightly left under pressure but was just pushed out with hands and heels late on.
Secret History was much more dominant than the ½ length winning distance and has only been raised 2lbs as a result. The 2nd Mereside Diva finished midfield at York on her next two starts but the 3rd Rosa Inglesa won on her next start by 2 ¾ lengths and is now rated 9lbs higher. Secret History looks sure to run well if settling again over this longer trip.
