Liam Firkin picks out some potential future betting angles.
Horse: Rousing Encore
Trainer: Ruth Carr
What caught the eye: Ran well two weeks ago considering he was held up out the back and left with a lot to do before staying on well to finish among the places in 4th.
This horse is one you can almost back blind although you’d be hoping for a low draw when he is back at York later this month. He has an excellent record at the track and you can bet your bottom dollar that he will be aimed at that SkyBet Dash that has a prize pot worth £70,000 more than the handicap he ran well in at Carlisle two Saturday’s ago. He may well be dropped a pound or two for his effort at Carlisle and that would make him a really attractive proposition heading into the York festival.
When is he a bet: SkyBet Dash at York
Horse: One Number
Trainer: Joseph O’Brien
What caught the eye: This 2-year old caught the eye on debut at Curragh on Wednesday and certainly started to get the hang of his job towards the backend of the race where he stayed on well to finish second and looks to be one who can go on to win races up in trip.
When is he a bet: Likely to win a maiden but could be well found in the market next time out.

Horse: Alpha

What caught the eye: This Sea The Stars Filly made a nice start under rules and will no doubt benefit from that initial run as well as a step up in trip. She really got the hang of her job towards the end of the race and was eating up ground all the way to the line but the trip proved insufficient for her to reel in the winner. She shaped well on debut though and I would be sticking her into the tracker for future races.
When is she a bet: I can see her being tried over the 1m trip next time out and she’s likely to be competitive in maidens later this season and could well go one place better next time out.
