Steve Ryder is back with three each way selections on Monday.
2:10 Carlisle
Rain Cap (0.5pt ew)
Best price 17/2.
Rambuso Creek has a 4lb penalty for a win in a classified race last time and I am willing to take a chance on RAIN CAP (best priced at 8/1) who should appreciate the return to turf. The John Riches trained nine-year-old has won 8 times and placed a further 15 times on turf in his career but is 0-18 on the AW so the fact that he has performed so well on his previous two starts at Wolverhampton is highly encouraging.
Rain Cap last ran on the flat at Redcar in November when beaten 1 ¼ lengths off a mark of 52 and he races here off the same mark in this race. He has shown good form over both 6f and 7f so this stiff finish over 6f at this track should suit and he looks sure to run well for his trainer operating an 18% strike rate so far this season.
3:20 Carlisle
Arctic Fox (0.5pt ew)
Best price 17/2.
The Martin Todhunter trained ARCTIC FOX (best priced at 12/1) won this race off a mark of 59 last season and bids for a repeat victory off the same mark this year. The ten-year-old won this by a length off this mark of 59 and has run well on her two starts so far this season at Catterick. She finished 2nd beaten only ½ length over this 1m6f trip on her reappearance before finishing 3rd beaten three lengths last time off a mark of 60 over 2 miles which is a trip that she has never won over.
Arctic Fox clearly likes the track, is back over her favoured distance and is well handicapped off her current mark and it will be disappointing if she wasn’t in the top four.
3:50 Carlisle
Jewel Maker (0.5pt ew)
Best price 14/1.
Tim Easterby won this race in 2023 and 2024 and he looks to hold strong claims again this year with the eleven-year-old JEWEL MAKER (best priced at 14/1). The gelding is a two-time winner at this track in his career including when an impressive six length winner in September off a mark of 59. He won at Redcar last season off a mark of 66 but has dropped back down to a mark of 60 following a few slightly disappointing efforts when sent off big prices.
Jewel Maker outran odds of 25/1 to finish 4th last time over 1m1f here off this mark of 60 and his regular rider David Allan now gets back on board. He looks worth taking a chance on with four places available.
