UK Horse Racing Tips: York

Paul Midgley has a good record in this race and his Lethal Nymph and EMERALD HARMONY spearhead another strong challenge from the yard. The former goes well here and is noted, but the latter has been in good heart of late and could be tough to overhaul with a step forward after a close-up third over C&D a couple of weeks ago. Others with strong chances include Cayman Tai and Bayraat, while the speedy Almaty Star could be one for the each-way players.

RED SPELLS DANGER is a three-year-old sprinter with more to give and is fancied to go one better than his close-up second in the Macmillan Sprint over C&D on his penultimate start. A creditable fourth in this grade at Newmarket most recently, the son of Cotai Glory appears to be very much on an upward curve. The stable companions Pocklington and Air Force One have strong credentials and are capable types, while last-time-out winners Trilby and Musical Touch should also go well.

ROYAL CHAMPION has been an international money spinner for his connections since he won this race 12 months ago. Having finished third in the Irish Champion Stakes before winning the Bahrain International Trophy and a Group 1 at Riyadh, the Karl Burke-trained eight-year-old is very hard to ignore. Item, who completed a hat-trick when he won the Dante here, found the soft ground and trip counterproductive in the Derby and may bounce back with conditions more suitable. Damysus also warrants serious consideration.

Dwindling Funds has filled the runner-up spot the last twice, most recently over this trip at Ayr, and he should remain competitive. Kiss Me My Love finished a close third at Doncaster earlier in the month and is respected, but the vote goes to PALADIN. The son of Justify bounced back to form when only finding a subsequent winner too good at Ascot and the booking of Rossa Ryan is noteworthy.

Bear Lee progressed from her debut fourth to score over the minimum distance at Musselburgh and is bound to mount a bold bid. However, NOUR shaped with lots of promise when third on her introduction at Redcar and, with any amount of improvement to come, Karl Burke's filly looks the one to be on. Hout Bay isn't ruled out either.

CALIBAN is really progressive and looks open to further improvement after his breakthrough success at Kempton earlier in the year was followed by another comfortable Southwell success. He's had another break and goes well fresh, so should be bang there at the business end again. Damascus Steel is a bit more exposed than the selection but arrives in similar form and cannot be underestimated, while Likealot is another to note.

RETURN OF THE GODS shaped with promise in a couple of starts as a juvenile and, a mediocre comeback run at Kempton aside, he has continued his progression this year courtesy of a Nottingham second and Doncaster win. The switch to turf has been the making of him and Ed Bethell's three-year-old is open to even more improvement over this 7f trip. Mr Noble is having just his second start in a handicap and must be taken seriously, likewise Flight Control.
