Horse: Cayman Tai

What caught the eye: I wouldn’t usually be looking at a jump jockey flat race for winners moving forward but I think there was a lot to like from Cayman Tai who finished fifth in this novelty 5f contest. Given his track position, he ran well when sent off at a big price of 28/1 and seemingly had more to offer when hitting the line well and he could be seen to better effect if ridden by a jockey who’s better suited to flat racing, next time out. 

On a mark of 73 prior to reassessment following this run and given that he’d reached a rating in the mid 80’s in 2025 would appear to suggest that he has more wins in him moving forward.

When is he a bet: I would be looking for him to return to the all weather surface where he has a much more consistent backlog of form and is worth monitoring when entered over the minimal trip again on that surface. 

Horse: Dee’s Funny Girl

What caught the eye: A really smart performance on her debut for her new stable and a filly that I’d taken a liking to early on and was a suggested bet when running a cracking race in the Albany Stakes when sixth and sent off at odds of 80/1. 

She was sold for £150,000 at the London sale and will no doubt improve further under her new trainer and she’s still getting the hang of her job which provides further scope for improvement. 

She certainly takes a while to warm into the race, but as we saw in the Princess Margaret Japan Cup Stakes on Saturday, she really does have a smart turn of foot when getting into top gear and had she had another 50 yards on the weekend, I’m convinced she’d have won. 

When is she a bet: She holds two entries in August in Group races on both sides of the Irish Sea and I would be keen on her for the latter of the two entries (August 22nd) which would see her up in trip and over the 7f at the Curragh for the first time. I’d advise that you keep your eyes peeled over at Oddschecker for that market being priced up.
