Horse: Primal

What caught the eye: This horse improved for dropping into handicap company and I think the additional distance was also a positive when seen running at Goodwood on Thursday. He made some very eye-catching progress towards the back end of the race as the contest began to unfold and appeared to be eating into the ground as they finished out the final furlong. I think this 2-year-old could end up in the winners enclosure before this season is out. 

When is he a bet: He would be one who I’d give serious consideration to next time out and wouldn’t be one bit disappointed to see him stepped up to the 1 mile trip. 

 

Horse: Lily Par

Trainer: Sheila Lavery 

What caught the eye: This four year-old was ridden cold at Galway in midweek and inevitably found plenty of trouble from the 3rd furlong pole onwards. The Jockey was forced to take a pull and couldn’t deliver the horse to provide. It’s full effort given them amount of trouble that he encountered.

This filly appeared to be travelling extremely well and was one of the last, if not the last, to come off the bridle before staying on quite nicely once finding open ground to run into. 

When is she a bet: She may be worth considering going forward and would appear to be well handicapped based on prior form.

Horse: Unique Journey

Trainer: Daniel James Murphy

What caught the eye: This was a very good return to form having only beaten one of 22 rivals home on his last appearance and has shown that he remains progressive although he’d already climbed the handicap ratings in 2025. He’s finished second on multiple occasions this season of marks of 98 & 96 and if continuing in this vein of form next time out then he may well go close again. 

When is he a bet: I would keep an eye out for entries over 6 and 7 furlongs on his next appearance and if around the 28/1 that he was sent off on Sunday (wishful thinking) then he would be a cracking bet.
