UK Horse Racing Tips: Galway

EN OR sets the standard here on his return to jumping. The Tony Martin-trained gelding was well-beaten in two competitive Flat handicaps during the summer but it could be a different story now over hurdles. He was third in a Punchestown maiden hurdle back in February and a repeat of that would be enough now. Wonderful Everyday had some nice bumper form but needs to improve on her two outings over jumps to date. Saying that, she could be a danger. Firebrand has been knocking on the door and should pick up prize money again.

MART LANE wasn't disgraced in a competitive event at the Festival here last time and should be capable of a big run in a moderate-looking contest. The Awtaad gelding was eighth behind the in-form Timurshah then and remains on the same mark. That was his first start after a break and he may improve a bit. Euro Maker opened his account at Ballinrobe last time and bids to defy a 6lb rise. He remains fairly unexposed and could go well again. Roc My Haarth won off this mark, over fences, when last seen in early April and is another to consider on his return.

This looks like a nice opportunity for BLOOD DESTINY back over hurdles. The seven-year-old took a handicap chase at the Festival here in fine style and looks nicely treated in this event, considering he is rated 156 now over fences. Buddy One wasn't disgraced when eighth in the Galway Plate on his last visit and could be a danger. He has a mark of 142 over timber. Paul's Dream has a nice weight with her mares allowance and Alan O'Sullivan taking off 5lb. She could get involved at the finish.

JOSHUA CHAMBERLAIN may be able to reverse form with Princess Felicia. The Gerry Keane-trained gelding did well to chase home that rival at Ballinrobe last time after a jarring mistake two from home. He stayed on well in the closing stages without making an impression but is now 5lb better off. Princess Felicia was a deserving winner that day, after a couple of placed efforts, and has to be respected despite a 6lb rise. Clone Cross is noted too.

A chance is taken on the unexposed TAWNY LEA, who had four moderate efforts before she caught the eye last time out when having to switch twice before staying on into fifth. She runs off the same mark and is of real interest. Journey So Far is 12lb lower over hurdles and his Tramore win over fences is working out very well. Tantrum Boy ran admirably last time when second at Wexford and should remain competitive.

Former Galway Hurdle winner NDAAWI is the class act in the race. Rated 150 over hurdles, Gordon Elliott's charge comfortably won the Pat Smullen Cancer Trials Charity Race last time out at the Curragh under Nina Carberry, which should have put him spot-on for this assignment. Ocastle Des Mottes sets the chasing standard with a rating of 126 and he has an experience edge. Paul Townend's mount may need to improve to win, while Captain Ryan Matt should also make the frame.

SMALLCRAFTWARNING can supplement his success over hurdles at Kilbeggan on Friday night. Dropping in the ratings throughout the year, John Ryan's gelding now switches to chasing, avoiding a penalty, and runs off a 2lb higher mark over fences. Justatan is winless in seven starts under Rules, but he did run well when third in a Galway Festival handicap hurdle. The drop back in trip and Donagh Meyler's return to the saddle are positives. Tell Us This won a handicap at this venue's Festival meeting. However, he has to contend with a career-high rating.

BRICKFIELD BELLE improved massively from her hurdling debut when running in a bumper. Henry De Bromhead's charge hit the front in the closing stages on her second run in a Clonmel bumper, but she was unable to hold on. However, a replication of that form after a 165-day layoff should be good enough here. Discussion has been off the track for over two years and was highly tried in her younger days after finishing runner-up on debut. This is a fair step down in grade for the daughter of Dawn Approach and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of her on this return. Maxdale Prinxess was green on debut, but the booking of Derek O'Connor is eye-catching.
